Character

Everybody can draw a smiley face with its upturned mouth, and a miserable face with a downturned mouth, but there are many more facial expressions; fear, astonishment, resentment, anger, suspicion, to name a few and we will show you how to represent such emotions with equal simplicity.

Add to this the differences between men and women, old and young, the fat and the thin, the smart and the shabby. Clothing, hair-styles and body-language all help to create characters. You will find yourself looking at people in a totally different way.

There are two things to remember when looking at members of the human race, and the ways they show their emotions and attitudes. People all over the world adopt similar facial expressions, body actions and hand gestures, regardless of gender, race, age or social position. They smile when they are happy, scowl when cross and drop their jaws when astonished. These are general reactions. But each of us is an individual and will react in a slightly different or particular way. The cartoonist studies and draws the particular, without losing sight of the general.
